Samudera Indonesia signed an agreement with Osaka Asahi Kaiun for 2 separate 1,900 TEUS container ships, virtually via teleconference, in Jakarta and Japan on May 10, 2021.

Present at the signing agreement, Bani M. Mulia as the President Director of Samudera Indonesia, and Katsunobu Kitamura as President of Osaka Asahi Kaiun, as well as representatives from Naikai Zosen as the shipyard who will build the 2 ships.

These additional fleets are in line with Samudera's strategic plan to increase capacity and rejuvenate the fleet. "Two container carriers that were received in September and December 2020 have joined the Indonesian Ocean fleet and have made a positive contribution. Therefore, we are optimistic to add 2 more ships next year, "said Bani.

"The current situation in the shipping industry in the world is becoming more and more challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we believe there are many opportunities for growth, which we want to take part in," Bani added.

The addition of 2 new fleets is planned to be handed over by the end of 2022 and will serve shipping routes in Indonesia and the Asian region which are currently operated by Samudera Indonesia.
