Samudera Shipping Line Ltd is primarily engaged in the transportation of containerized and non-containerized cargo through its Container Shipping and Bulk & Tanker business segments. The Group’s vessels and services currently ply trade routes connecting various ports in Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, the Far East, and the Middle East.

Since its incorporation in 1993, Samudera has progressively established a good track record of professionalism and competency in its field. Through prudent management and a well-managed expansion strategy, the Group has been able to successfully build up its position as a credible and well-respected industry player in the region today.

Leveraging its extensive network, Samudera’s Container Shipping business segment offers reliable feeder services between its “hub” port in Singapore and other “spoke” ports in Asia, as well as interregional container shipping services to manufacturers, exporters and importers. The Group serves a wide spectrum of shippers from its headquarters in Singapore, and via representative and agency offices in various cities in Southeast Asia, Indochina and Far East, the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East.

 

In the Bulk and Tanker shipping business, Samudera’s fleet of bulk carriers and tankers are chartered out to shippers for the transportation of dry bulk and liquid cargo. The vessels are deployed either on time charter, contracts of affreightment, or single-voyage basis.

Samudera is listed on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited.

Chairman Message

Masli Mulia

Samudera Shipping Line was established in 1993 to provide feeder services between Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Since then, we have grown into a leading operator of regional shipping services, connecting Southeast Asia with the rest of the world.

 

Samudera’s reputation is built upon our commitment to the highest standards of operational excellence, integrity, professionalism, and service quality.  Guided by these values, we have successfully navigated countless challenges over the years and emerged stronger with every season. This, coupled with an adaptive and nimble spirit, has enabled us to flourish under various conditions and chalk up a soundtrack record, which we can leverage for future growth.

Bani M. Mulia

With nearly three decades of experience under our belt, Samudera Shipping Line has established itself as a leading player in the regional shipping industry. Amid an ever-changing industry landscape, we are constantly refining our business strategy and adapting to meet the changing needs of our customers. Over time, our track record and capabilities have borne testimony to our ability to provide efficient and effective transportation and logistics solutions.

 

We offer a host of shipping and logistics services, including regional container shipping, industrial shipping, as well as land-based logistics and warehousing services. By expanding our participation in the transportation value chain, we aim to play a greater role in connecting our global partners to Indonesia and beyond.

Masli Mulia

Non-Executive Chairman

Masli Mulia is the Non-Executive Chairman of the Company and a member of the Nominating Committee and was last re-elected in April 2019. He provides the Board with overall leadership and is committed to promoting a high standard of corporate governance within the Company. Mr. Masli is also a member of the Board of Commissioners of PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk (“Samudera Indonesia”), a majority shareholder of the Company.

 

Mr. Masli joined Samudera Indonesia in 1971 and has held various positions, including President Director prior to his appointment as Commissioner. Outside of the Group, Mr. Masli serves as a member of the Advisory Board in the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA). He was previously the Chairman of the ASEAN Federation of Forwarders Association and the Indonesian Logistics and Freight Forwarders Association. Mr. Masli graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy, Jakarta, Indonesia in 1970.

Bani Maulana Mulia

Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer

Bani Maulana Mulia has been re-designated as the Group Chief Executive Officer who is responsible for the overall strategic direction, growth and day-to-day operations of the Group. He is also the President Director of Samudera Indonesia.

Mr. Bani brings nearly two decades of industry experience with him, having started his career in 2001 as a finance officer in Samudera Indonesia. Since then, he has taken on various roles and responsibilities within the organization before being appointed as a Board Member in 2009 and then its President Director in June 2020.

Mr. Bani majored in Management at the Economics Faculty of the University of Indonesia and furthered his education at Deakin University, Australia, majoring in Finance.

 

Ridwan Hamid

Executive Director, Group Business Support

Ridwan Hamid has been re-designated as the Executive Director of Group Business Support since 28 October 2022. He is responsible for the overall finance and administrative functions as well as people and technology of the Group. Concurrently, he also serves as Finance Director of Samudera Indonesia.
 

Mr. Ridwan began his career at Prasetio Utomo & SGV Arthur Andersen, where his last held position was as Head of Mergers & Acquisitions. He then spent more than a decade with Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia before moving on to Hutchison Port Indonesia as CFO and, later, its President Director. Mr. Ridwan subsequently took on the role of an Executive Committee member of the International Association of Ports and Harbors, then CEO and President Director of Anglo-Eastern Plantations Group before joining Samudera Indonesia. Mr. Ridwan holds a Bachelor of Economics in Finance and Accounting from Padjadjaran University, Bandung, Indonesia.

Tan Meng Toon

Executive Director, Group Business Operations

Tan Meng Toon has been re-designated as the Executive Director of the Group Business Operations since 28 October 2022 and is responsible for the overall trade, commercial, and operational activities of the Group. Prior to his appointment as an Executive Director, Mr. Tan was the Deputy Director, Trade, in charge of the Group’s trade functions, and previously General Manager, where he was responsible for the Company’s feeder business and development. Mr. Tan has on-board vessel experience as a deck officer in several local and foreign-owned shipping companies. He was also a technical superintendent and operations manager of a foreign-owned ship management company. Before joining Samudera, Mr. Tan was the General Manager at Pancon Shipping and Marine Services, overseeing its day-to-day operations, marketing, and technical matters.

 

Mr. Tan holds a Foreign Ocean Going Master (Class I) Certificate.

Quah Ban Huat

Lead Independent and Non-Executive Director

Quah Ban Huat was appointed the Company’s Lead Independent Director in 2017, is the Chairman of the Audit Committee, and is a member of the Nominating and Remuneration Committees. Throughout his career, he has held various key senior positions in finance and general management, including a Principal Advisor role at KPMG Corporate Finance, advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, deal structuring, and finance. Currently, Quah Ban Huat serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Boards of the trustee-manager and REIT manager of Frasers Hospitality Trust. He was previously on the Boards of AP Oil International Limited, Croesus Retail Asset Management Pte Ltd, Deutsche Boerse Asia Holdings Pte Ltd, Eurex Clearing Asia Pte Ltd, Eurex Exchange Asia Pte Ltd, and Grindrod Shipping Holdings Ltd.

 

Mr. Quah is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Lee Lay Eng Juliana

Independent and

Non-Executive Director

Lee Lay Eng Juliana was appointed as Independent and Non-Executive Director of the Board in August 2018 and serves as a member of the Audit, Nominating, and Remuneration Committees. She is currently the Managing Director of Caridian Consulting Pte Ltd and a specialist in tax advisory. Ms. Lee was formerly a tax partner with Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young and has worked with multinational and local companies on mergers, acquisitions, business reorganization, cross-border and domestic transactions, and restructuring.

 

Ms. Lee holds a Bachelor of Law (Honours) from the then University of Singapore. She is a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). Ms. Lee is also an Accredited Tax Advisor (Income Tax) under the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals.

Ng Chee Keong

Independent and

Non-Executive Director

Ng Chee Keong was appointed as Independent and Non-Executive Director in 2014. He serves as the Chairman of the Nominating Committee as well as a member of the Audit and Remuneration Committees. He has held various senior positions throughout his career with the Port of Singapore Authority and later PSA Corp until his retirement in 2005 as CEO of PSA Corp. With his wealth of experience in terminal, marine, and logistic businesses, Mr. Ng also serves as Chairman of the Board of Jurong Port Pte Ltd, and Board Member of Mencast Holdings Ltd and JTC Corporation.

 

Mr. Ng was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1992 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1997, in recognition of his outstanding public service to Singapore. He graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Upper Honours) in Economics from the then University of Singapore.

Nicholas Peter Ballas

Independent and

Non-Executive Director

Nicholas Peter Ballas was appointed as an Independent and Non-Executive Director in 2010 and serves as the Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Audit and Nominating Committees. He possesses over 25 years of experience working in the Asia Pacific region and has held various positions in finance, strategy, and general management in the USA, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Mr. Ballas is currently President, Polymer Solutions (Vestolit) at Orbia, a global leader in polymer solutions and advanced materials. Previously, Mr. Ballas was Executive Vice President, Asia Pacific and a member of the management council of Nexans SA, a global leader in the cable industry based in Paris, France.

 

Mr. Ballas holds a Master of International Management Degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, USA.

Low Chee Wah

Independent and

Non-Executive Director

Low Chee Wah was appointed as an Independent and Non-Executive Director in August 2023. He currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at Frasers Property Retail and serves as a Non-Executive and Non-Independent Director on the Board of Frasers Centrepoint Asset Management Ltd. He has more than 30 years of experience in the real estate and finance industries and has held senior key roles in various reputable companies, gaining extensive insights into diverse business landscapes.


Mr Low holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, Australia. He is also a Fellow of CPA Australia and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.

Bani Maulana Mulia

Bani Maulana Mulia has been re-designated as the Group Chief Executive Officer who is responsible for the overall strategic direction, growth and day-to-day operations of the Group. He is also the President Director of PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, a majority shareholder of the Company.
 

Mr. Bani studied at the Economics Faculty of the University of Indonesia, majoring in Management, then continued his education at Deakin University, Australia, majoring in Finance.

Ridwan Hamid

Executive Director, Group Business Support

Ridwan Hamid has been re-designated as the Executive Director of Group Business Support since 28 October 2022. He is responsible for the overall finance and administrative functions as well as people and technology of the Group. Concurrently, he also serves as the Finance Director of PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, a majority shareholder of the Company.

Mr. Ridwan began his career at Prasetio Utomo & SGV Arthur Andersen (1987-1992), with his last position being Head of the Mergers & Acquisitions team. He then moved and held various positions at Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (1992-2005). He subsequently occupied several other important positions, namely as CFO (2005-2008) and President Director (2008-2010) of Hutchison Port, as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (2010-2011), as well as CEO and President Director of Anglo-Eastern Plantations Group, which owns 17 palm oil plantation companies and CPO factories all over Indonesia (2011-2014). 
Mr. Ridwan earned his Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Finance and Accounting, from Padjadjaran University, Bandung (1987).

Tan Meng Toon

Executive Director, Group Business Operations

Tan Meng Toon has been re-designated as the Executive Director of the Group Business Operations since 28 October 2022 and is responsible for the overall trade, commercial, and operational activities of the Group. Prior to his appointment as an Executive Director, Mr. Tan was the Deputy Director, Trade, in charge of the Group’s trade functions, and previously General Manager, where he was responsible for the Company’s feeder business and development. Mr. Tan had served as a deck officer at various levels in several local and foreign-owned shipping companies. He also served as a technical superintendent and operations manager for a foreign-owned ship management company.
 

Mr. Tan holds a Foreign Ocean Going Master (Class I) Certificate.

Trisnadi Sukur Muslim Mulia

Managing Director, Head of Strategy and Business Development

Trisnadi Sukur Muslim Mulia is the Managing Director, Head of Strategy and Business Development and is responsible for strategic planning, including business development and expansion.

 

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Trisnadi was the Deputy Director, Finance, and was responsible for the finance, accounting, and administrative functions of the Group. He previously held various operational, business development, and directorship positions within Samudera Indonesia. Mr. Trisnadi started his career in shipping with ANL Container Line in Melbourne. He later joined PT GAC Samudera Logistics before moving to PT Panurjwan, an Indonesian domestic container shipping operation in Samudera Indonesia.

 

Mr. Trisnadi currently serves as one of the Vice-Chairmen of the Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) and a member of the International Committee under the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA). He graduated with a Bachelor of Planning & Design, majoring in Construction Management, and a Master of Applied Commerce, majoring in Business Analysis and Systems, from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Thomas Lee Thuan Aun

Managing Director, Head of Commercial

Thomas Lee Thuan Aun has been re-designated as the Managing Director, Head of Commercial since 1 November 2022. He is responsible for the overall commercial activities of the Group.  

 

Mr. Thomas has been with the Group since 1997, when he joined as a Management Trainee before being deployed to the Group’s SOC department as a Sales Executive. He was promoted to Assistant Manager, Trade and Development, and subsequently rose through the ranks to reach the position of General Manager, Trade Management. He was promoted to Deputy Director, Trade, in 2018.

 

Mr. Thomas has extensive experience in trade management and holds a Bachelor of Science from the National University of Singapore.

Agnes Wong Pui Yee

Managing Director, Head of Finance

Agnes Wong was appointed as the Managing Director, Head of Finance on 1 November 2022. She is responsible for the overall finance and accounting functions of the Group. Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Agnes has taken on various roles and responsibilities in areas such as accounting, taxation, and corporate financing within the Group. She also serves as a director of various companies within the organization. She has over 20 years of experience in the finance and accounting sectors as well as the shipping industry. She is a member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) and a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Shanti Lasminingsih Poesposoetjipto

Ms. Shanti brings with her extensive knowledge and experience across the IT, commerce, education, and corporate governance sectors. She has been a member of the Board of Commissioners of Samudera Indonesia since June 2000 and is currently its Chairman. She also serves as the Chairman of PT Asuransi Bintang Tbk.


Ms. Shanti leverages her expertise in the fields of corporate governance to serve as the Chairman of the Boards of Trustees of Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) and Bung Hatta Anti-Corruption Award (BHACA) Association. She is a founding member of the Executive Board of Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia (SCCI), and Founder and Ambassador of Family Business Network Asia (FBN-Asia). Ms. Shanti is also a member of Indonesian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Honorary Board (EKONID) and the National Committee on Governance Policy.


On the academia front, Ms. Shanti currently serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Yayasan Pendidikan dan Pembinaan Manajemen (YPPM) and Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF).  She heads the Consulting Board of AIESEC Indonesia and is a member of the Consulting Board at INSEAD Southeast Asia School of Management. She is one of the founding members of Wharton e-Fellow at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.


Ms. Shanti has strong expertise in information technology (IT) owing to her early career in the sector, where she helped to establish and transform PT Praweda Ciptakarsa Informatika, a subsidiary of Soedarpo Corporation engaged in IT services.


Ms. Shanti holds a Diplom Ingenieur (Dipl.Ing) from Munich University of Technology (TU-Muenchen), majoring in Electronics and specializing in Computer Science.

Lim Kee Hee

Mr. Lim is a shipping veteran with over 40 years of marketing, trade, and commerce experience in the industry.  He joined the Board of Advisors after serving the Group for 28 years in executive positions, the last of which was as Executive Director, Business Strategy & Development, and as Executive Director, Commercial before that.  He was previously responsible for the Group’s trade and marketing functions as Senior General Manager. Prior to joining the Group in 1992, he held managerial positions with Mansfield Container Shipping & Straits Container Agencies and Nedlloyd Line. 


Mr. Lim holds a Bachelor of Science from the then University of Singapore, and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Management from the Singapore Institute of Management.

Chng Hee Kok

Mr. Chng’s leadership and governance experience over the years expands across a wide range of industries. He currently serves as Independent Chairman of Ellipsiz Ltd, a leading provider of integrated solutions in the electronics industry, and holds non-executive directorships in multiple Singapore-listed companies.  In his former executive positions, Mr. Chng served as CEO of Yeo Hiap Seng Ltd, Scotts Holdings Ltd, Hartawan Holdings Ltd, HG Metals Manufacturing Ltd, and LH Group Ltd. Mr. Chng’s previous non-executive roles were as Board Member of Sentosa Development Corporation and the Public Utilities Board.  He was also a Council Member of the Singapore Institute of Directors, and a Member of Parliament in Singapore from 1984 to 2001.


Mr. Chng holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) from the then University of Singapore, and an MBA from the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow member of the Singapore Institute of Directors.
